F404 – Shared Space

The Shared Space Sign, F 404, is to be used in locations to serve as a gateway to defined Shared Space or Public Realm environments, where pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles share the carriageway within low-speed environments. The gateway location is the point where the low special speed limit begins. The sign must be used with 20 km/h special speed limit on a shared surface street in an urban area where there are no separate footways and/or no vertical segregation between footway and carriageway and/or on a street which is pedestrianised for most of the day, but which allows limited access for delivery vehicles at certain times.
